Steven Harris Architects - Brooklyn Townhouse

When studying the townhouses by Steven Harris many people start to notice the opulent staircases, certainly after one of them, in a Boston home went viral last year. Sure this Brooklyn Townhouse for two art collectors features a spiral staircase, but it also displays another example of a more interesting thread in the work; the juxtaposition of green space to the architecture and to the city. In partnership with Rees Roberts the garden and the roofdeck are both distinct places with different attitudes. In the garden, a green space surrounded by the city, you are  made aware of your life in the city. On the roof deck the city recedes to the background and you are transported both in architecture and in landscape to a different place. There is no architect in New York that does this act of transformation so well as Steven Harris.
